Abandonment

I want to permanently stop my thesis, what should I do?

Before deciding to stop your thesis work, we advise you to discuss it: do not hesitate to request a meeting with the director of the doctoral school.

Indeed, depending on the difficulties you encounter, various solutions can be considered. If you decide to permanently interrupt your thesis, you must send the thesis abandonment form to your doctoral school, duly completed and signed by your thesis director.

I wish to withdraw from my thesis, and I have an employment contract from the university

If you have an employment contract, you must at the same time inform the administration and the Human Resources (HR) department in charge of the employment contract of your intention to resign.

–> Reread your contract, and contact your Human Resources manager to find out the notice periods and the exact terms.

If you have obtained a doctoral mission (teaching or non-teaching mission), you also must inform the university in which you carry out this additional service.

I wish to resign from my contract without abandoning my thesis

In certain cases, termination of the employment contract is desired by the doctoral student, but without abandoning the thesis:

In the contract resignation letter, the doctoral student must indicate whether he or she also chooses to definitively abandon his or her thesis.

–> You must send this letter at the same time to the doctoral school and to the Human Ressources department which manages your contract.
