Interruption (cesure)

Description

Several letters forming the words « Pause », « Breathe » and « Resume

Exceptionally, upon a reasoned request from the doctoral student, a gap period of one semester or one year may take place, only once, by the decision of the dean of the University and the opinion of the thesis director and director of the doctoral school.

During this period, the doctoral student temporarily suspends his training and research work. They must pay registration fees unless the gap period is for one year, within the limits of the academic year.

This period is not counted in the duration of the thesis. The University guarantees doctoral students who suspend their studies their registration in doctoral training at the end of the gap period.

This interruption during the thesis is possible, after agreement with the university, on:

  • Only one semester* (either the 1st semester or the 2nd semester)
  • Or two consecutive semesters** (= one academic year)

Terms:

*In the case of an interruption for a single semester, the doctoral student is required to re-register for the academic year and to respect the re-registration deadline, regardless of the gap semester chosen. The doctoral student must pay the amount of tuition fees provided for in the annual order.

** In the case of an interruption for a full academic year, the doctoral student chooses whether he or she wishes to remain registered or not. If he wishes to remain registered (for example, to continue to benefit from CROUS services or access to the library), he must respect the terms and deadline for re-registration and must pay tuition fees. provided for in the annual decree while respecting the calendar deadlines.

Clarification: a one-year interruption with a choice of re-registration does not impact the thesis duration (= the gap year will not be counted in the thesis duration, whether the doctoral student re-registers or not).

What are the possible forms of interruption?
